| A member of North since 1999, Dave Damin has joined the church staff as part-time building manager. Dave’s wife, Carole, is an active member of the church and their five grandchildren enjoy attending on occasion. Dave holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and an MA in Management from Webster University in St. Louis. He graduated from St. Meinrad Minor Seminary after living with the Benedictine monks for four years. He has traveled from the Arctic Circle to Tierra del Fuego and from Japan to Austria as a Navy-enlisted man and officer, a vice-president for Science Applications International, and the engineer for Alpine North America. He has also operated his own home restoration and handyman business here in Indy. He has made his home in many places, including one to two years in Iceland, Germany, and an Aleutian Island.
Dave’s original ambition was to be a foreign missionary and he has been an amateur missionary throughout his life. He has led or participated in community service projects in other countries and other states. One key project was the establishment of a college extension program for Navy people at remote locations, and he taught college algebra. Here in Indy he has concentrated most of his energy in fund raising, designing, implementing, and maintaining greenways, parks, playgrounds, river front, water shed, and school yards. He has performed other work in support of IPS in addition to development of school yards. He is a HOOP volunteer, distributing food and other necessities to homeless brethren on the streets of Indy. He has led teams in work on five Habitat for Humanity homes in the city. He has been the organizer and host for delegations from Russia and Jamaica. Here at North he has wiped the tears and noses of babies and performed a number of other tasks in support of IHN; traveled to Appalachia with our Youth Group; worked with the Hairy Potters; served on a fund raising committee; served on a mission outreach committee; visited the sick, impoverished, and elderly; and hosted North visitors from Palestine and other locals.
Dave hopes to contribute to the spiritual life enjoyed by so many at North by increasing the level of maintenance of our facilities and the level of attention to long range planning for protecting our precious facilities. He will make repairs, coordinate contractor support, and plan volunteer projects while he is developing mid- and long-range plans.
