email: MGilgallon@northchurchindy.com

Through his work as the Director of Music at North, Mark is helping to ensure that the church’s long tradition of high-quality music endures.

Mark coordinates all aspects of music for North's worship services and conducts the Cathedral Singers and Voices in Accord.

As a professional singer, Mark has performed widely in opera and musical theatre, with roles ranging from Don Quichotte in Man of LaMancha to Giorgio Germont in Verdi's La Traviata. As a baritone soloist, he has performed with the Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Kansas City and Cincinnati Pops symphonies.

Mark, a native of Chicago, earned bachelor’s degrees in music education and performance and a master’s in vocal performance, all at Illinois State University. He studied conducting with Dr. John Ferrell and Dr. Robert Allen, and he was assistant to Dr. Ferrell and Dr. Michael Schwartzkopf for the 150-voice Civic Chorale at Illinois State.

From 1993 until 2002, Mark was professor of voice at Butler University, where he served as a Faculty in Residence, Coordinator of the Voice Area and Coordinator of Recitals. He returned to Butler in 2004 as an adjunct professor of voice.   A member of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Mark was the 1995 winner of the Indiana National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Award winner. He also serves as vocal coach to five time Grammy Award winner, Sandi Patty.

Mark collects Bewitched memorabilia and vintage Fiestaware. Of the 2,500-plus CDs in his music library, his favorites are recordings of coloratura soprano Edita Gruberova.
