It’s the economy, again. As I write this column, most of us are paying close attention to the proposed remedies for an ailing economy. Hopefully we’ll muster enough wisdom and compassion to sort through what’s good for Wall Street, Main Street, and Our Street.
Truthfully, however, most of us feel like players on the sideline. We’ve been taught that the word economy means money, investments, markets, and trade. All things better left to experts. We forget the English word economy is derived from the Greek oikonomia. For the Greeks, oikonomia meant rules of the household that govern the overall well-being of the household, not just financial considerations.
